Classy new Legend is revealed
08 April 2004 Company insiders said the prototype is 99% identical to the production model, which goes on UK sale in October 2005. The new Legend will cost considerably more than its predecessor - about £40,000 - but is said to be a much more credible rival for the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class, Audi A6 and Jaguar S-type. The car features an innovative four-wheel-drive system called Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). It not only varies the amount of drive being sent to the front and rear wheels but also how much goes to each individual rear wheel. SH-AWD is said to increase cornering power, manoeuvrability and steering feel. Power comes from a 300bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine. Performance is also helped by the use of weight-saving aluminium in the bonnet, boot, wings, subframes and suspension. The gearbox is a five-speed automatic that allows drivers to override shifts manually through steering wheel-mounted paddles. |
