Honda is launching a low-cost ownership package on its new FR-V six-seat MPV, which goes on sale in the UK next month.

Called the Easy Care Option, it allows buyers to get five years' servicing and three years' insurance at discounted rates. When combined with a PCP finance package, it leaves owners with only fuel and non-routine repairs, such as replacement tyres, to pay for

Under the scheme, a customer can buy a 1.7 SE FR-V for £300 a month with a deposit of £3222. The 2.0-litre model is available for £320 a month and a deposit of £3412.

The insurance is available to anyone over 30 years old, who has not been disqualified in the past five years, and allows two other named drivers to be included in the policy.

The servicing covers five scheduled garage visits and effectively leaves owners with no maintenance bills for 62,500 miles. It is transferable if the car is sold before that mileage is reached.

If the scheme is successful, something similar could be offered on other models in the Honda range.

  • Honda has announced a 2.2-litre diesel engine will be available in the FR-V from August next year. The diesel MPV is expected to be priced from £17,700 in SE trim - £1300 more than the equivalent petrol model. There are no plans for an automatic gearbox on any FR-V at the moment.
