A face-lifted and updated Honda Jazz supermini range goes on sale on October 6 with cheaper entry-level model.

The new 77bhp 1.2-litre petrol will only be available in S trim, bringing the starting point for the range down by more than £400 to £8600. The 82bhp 1.4-litre petrol models get improved equipment levels and are more expensive. The larger engine will only be offered in SE specification for £10,500 and Sport trim for £11,500.

The 1.2-litre matches the 1.4-litre version's top speed of 106mph and only takes 0.4sec longer to reach 60mph with a time of 13.7sec. Combined fuel consumption is 2.7mpg better than the 1.4-litre's at 51.4mpg. All Jazz models remain in the lowest 15% company car tax band.

Redesigned front and rear bumpers feature on the 1.2, while the SE and Sport models also have new-look headlights and rear light clusters. Fifteen-inch alloy wheels replace the 14-inch steel items currently used on SE cars.

Like current S-trimmed cars, the 1.2 misses out on air-conditioning, even as an option, but is fitted with anti-lock brakes, a CD player, front electric windows and four airbags.

SE and Sport models now benefit from an improved CD stereo with steering wheel-mounted controls. Automatic climate control is used on the range-topping Sport version instead of manually controlled air-conditioning.
