UK?s fastest hatch gets overtaken

It seems that the supremely fast Honda Civic Type-R isn?t so fast after all ? when it comes to depreciation. According to Glass?s Guide, a 2001 Y-plate Type-R will lose only 10% of its value ? bettering rivals such as the Audi S3 Quattro, MG ZR, SEAT Leon 20V T Cupra, Clio 172 and the Golf GTi 2.0. Glass?s say that after one-year?s motoring, the Civic Type-R only loses £1515 of it?s value ? less than popular hatchbacks including the Peugeot 206 1.4 LX (£1720), Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.2.12v (£2070) and the VW Polo 1.4S (£1770). Glass?s Guide?s senior editor, Jeff Paterson said "With depreciation the biggest single cost associated with running a car, the Civic Type-R?s excellent residuals are great news for owners. It means that the overall ownership cost is likely to be far less than might have been expected for a car of this type."
