Race is on to buy GT supercar
27 November 2003 A total of 2150 customers have registered an interest in the 500bhp, left-hand-drive GT, which has an estimated price of £100,000. Those wanting to buy one will have to fill in an application form which Ford will use to select the lucky few. Ford says buyers will be 'individually identified via carefully considered criteria, intended to match the most deserving and appropriate buyers with this iconic car.' The president of Ford of Europe, Lewis Booth, and his most senior executives will approve the final selection. The application form, downloadable from www.fordteamrs.com, includes questions on whether prospective owners have any links to the original GT40, if they intend to drive the car regularly and whether they have any involvement in motorsport. With 500bhp and 500lb ft of pull available from its 5.4-litre V8 engine, the rear-wheel-drive GT is capable of hitting 200mph. The car was inspired by the GT40 racing car of the mid-1960s, which won the Le Mans 24-hour race four times and took its name from its height of 40 inches. The new GT is four inches taller and 18 inches longer. |
