Ford has announced the Ford Fiesta Zetec S Red - a limited edition with a striking paint scheme and some tasty extras.

Only 400 Ford Fiesta Zetec S Red models will be built and their most standout feature is a chequered flag roof.

The bold graphic follows in the success of the bright yellow “Anniversary” and lime green “Celebration” models which sported the same roof design, and sold out within weeks of their launch, according to Ford.

This time the roof is paired with bright red paint and some tempting extras.

The rear windows get dark privacy glass, while the door mirrors, door handles, body mouldings, roof spoiler and boot handle are all finished in a glossy black paint.

Mechanically the Ford Fiesta Zetec S Red is unchanged, and its 1.6-litre petrol engine produces 99bhp and 108lb/ft of pulling power.

It accelerates from 0-60mph in 10.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 114mph.

Those seeking more performance are served by another new special edition – the 150bhp Ford Fiesta ST 500 with an aggressive black paint scheme and racey side and bonnet stripes.

Or there is the rorty Fiesta ST 185 Mountune, with its tuned 185bhp engine shrinking the 0-60mph dash to just 6.9 seconds.
 
The Ford Fiesta is always a strong seller in the UK and the carmaker claims more than 42,000 have been sold this year already.
