Ford Focus voted car of the decade
21 December 2009
The family hatchback beat contenders the BMW 3 Series and Vauxhall Astra – as well as two of its siblings, the Fiesta and Mondeo – to the top spot.
The Auto Trader poll, designed to analyse the key motoring trends over the past ten years, looked at categories ranging from best “value for money” and “greenest” car to the public’s favourite motoring personalities and car accessories.
Sat-nav topped the list of optional extras, while alloy wheels and sound systems remained popular.
The Toyota Prius was voted most eco-friendly whilst the prize for “best value for money” went to James May’s favourite, the Fiat Panda.
Range Rovers have become the ultimate celebrity car and the Bugatti Veyron – of which only 200 models were made and are now owned by the likes of Jenson Button and Simon Cowell – topped the list of both the “beyond your wildest dreams” and “most overpriced” car categories.
Crowned the decade’s best motoring personality was Jeremy Clarkson, ahead of racing legends Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
