Sporty Fiestas get price-tag
18 November 2004 The 148bhp ST150 costs £13,595, the 99bhp Zetec S petrol is £11,595 and the 89bhp diesel is £12,495. All cars offer sharper handling than standard models, with tuned and uprated suspension. The 2.0-litre petrol ST is the fastest of the latest Fiesta range to date. It can reach 60mph in 7.9sec and go on to 129mph. Combined fuel consumption is 38.2mpg and its carbon dioxide emissions give it a 21% company car tax banding. Its group 13 insurance gives a typical annual bill of £465. The petrol Zetec S sprints to 60mph in 9.9sec, has a top speed of 114mph and returns 41.5mpg on the combined cycle. It sits in the 17% tax band and its group seven insurance means a typical bill of around £345. A diesel Zetec S takes 11.2sec to 60mph and can achieve 112mph. It returns an impressive 62.8mpg and falls into the lowest 15% tax band. Expect to pay around £309 to insure the car, which has a group six rating. Plenty of other more powerful superminis are available, but Ford has not committed to extending the Fiesta range beyond the ST and Zetec S models. A 197bhp Fiesta RS concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this spring but Ford is not sure whether the hot hatch would be popular enough with buyers on the Continent to make financial sense. However, Mitsubishi is expected to offer a 200bhp-plus version of its three-door Colt, which arrives in the spring. Seat, Renault and Peugeot already offer superminis with up to 178bhp. Rival diesel models also outgun the Fiesta. The Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia are available with 130bhp while the Seat Ibiza packs 160bhp. |
