If you want to get your hands on the world’s first 200mph car, the Ferrari F40, look no further than Auto Trader.

There are four on sale in our classified ads – more choice than you might expect for one of the world’s ultimate pin-ups.

When it went on sale in 1987, the Ferrari F40 was the fastest car in the world and the first road car to better the magical 200mph barrier – hitting 201mph.

The hand built 2.9-litre Ferrari V8 is turbocharged and produces a massive 478bhp.

It accelerates from 0-60mph in a mere 3.6 seconds, easily fast enough to keep it hot on the heels of today’s supercars – and outrun many of them.

Ferrari F40s changed hands for around £1 million in the late eighties and early nineties, but you can get one with a full service history in concourse condition for a fraction now.

All the models on Auto Trader cost less than £300,000.

And you won’t find large miles on the odometer - most have only covered an average of about 1,000 miles per year.

The Ferrari F40 lost its title as the world’s fastest production car to the RUF Yellowbird, which hit 211mph in 1989.

But despite only holding on to the record speed for two years it remained among the supercar pin-ups for a generation and is still one of the world’s most recognisable cars.
