A round-the-world drive to celebrate Ferrari's 60th anniversary hits the UK today – and will be led by a one-off Ferrari police car.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti HGTS is liveried in police colours and will be driven by volunteer police officers throughout the 1,500 mile UK leg of the Ferrari 60 Relay.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the first Ferrari car in 1947, the relay will see a platinum and diamond-tipped baton being passed between cars on the 50 country marathon trek.

The relay began on January 29 in Abu Dhabi and has already visited the Middle East, China, Japan, North America, Spain, Portugal and Holland and is planned to involve more than 10,000 Ferrari owners and their cars.

Ferrari's £200,000 police car leader is a special version of the 612 Scaglietti, which counts the Handling GTS suspension package, personalised seat stitching and leather detailing as well as a one-off roof-mounted emergency lighting bar among its features.

The UK leg of the tour starts today at Ferrari dealer, Charles Hurst in Belfast, before taking in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Swindon, Exeter, Lyndhurst, Egham, Colchester and Kensington before ending at Silverstone on Saturday.
