The Avenger name will be making a return to the UK after a 26 year absence.

Dodge pulled the wraps off its latest muscular saloon at the Detroit motor show and confirmed it will go on sale in the UK later this year.

The Ford Mondeo-sized Avenger, which evokes images of butch muscle cars from the 1970s, will be the third car launched by Dodge in the last 12 months.

Dodge say the Avenger, which will be on sale in America in the next few months, combines bold, aggressive styling with innovative interior features, high-levels of safety and reliability and excellent fuel efficiency.

The American line-up includes three petrol engines, including the hot 3.5-litre R/T version, although it's likely this will be supplemented with a diesel version for the British market.
