The 191mph Cadillac CTS-V super-saloon will cost from just £56,495 when it goes on sale in February – undercutting the BMW M5 by nearly £10,000.

With a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine developing 552bhp and 550lb/ft of pulling power, the Cadillac CTS-V is 45bhp more powerful than the M5.

This results in a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds making it quicker than the Ferrari F430 and the same as the Porsche 911 Turbo – despite being a four-door saloon with a big boot.

While German super-saloons such as the BMW M5, Audi RS6 and Mercedes E63 AMG are electronically limited to 155mph, the CTS-V isn’t and will run all the way to 191mph – making it one of the world’s fastest saloons.

At a shade over £35,000, the Vauxhall VXR8 offers the CTS-V competition in the super-saloon segment – boasting 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 170mph.

Cadillac hasn’t just designed the CTS-V to be a Scud missile in a straight line and have fitted 380mm front brakes and what it is calling ‘the world’s fastest reacting suspension technology’ – enabling rapid speed through the bends.

When it was tested at the Nürburging in Germany, the CTS-V lapped the 14 mile track in 7 minutes 59 seconds, setting an unofficial record for a production saloon.

Inside, the CTS-V gets 14-way adjustable Recaro seats, all the normal electrics along with sat-nav and a 40GB hard drive for storing music on.

The Cadillac CTS-V will cost £56,495 (£58,995 for an automatic) when it goes on sale in February.
