Return of the Cadillac
28 February 2005 Two petrol engines will initially be on offer - a 2.8-litre and 3.6-litre V6. A 400bhp 5.7-litre V8 CTS-V could make it to the UK if there is enough interest but this would come in left-hand-drive form only. Priced from £24,850 for a 2.8-litre Comfort, the new CTS comes packed with standard equipment including an electrically adjustable driver's seat, climate control, electronic stability control, leather seats and six airbags. The 3.6-litre CTS is available in Sport Luxury trim only and costs from £29,850. Extra equipment includes larger wheels, xenon headlights with washers, and a six-disc CD player. The 2.8-litre car can sprint to 62mph in a brisk 8.2sec and go on to a 141mph maximum. The 3.6-litre model takes a mere 7.0sec to hit 62mph and has a top speed of 151mph. Combined fuel consumption is 23.7mpg for the 2.8-litre and 24.8mpg for the more efficient 3.6-litre engine. All versions are in the top 35% band for company car tax. This means a monthly bill of £288 for a higher-rate taxpayer for the entry-level CTS. UK prices for the CTS-V are yet to be confirmed, but expect it to cost from £45,000 if it goes on sale. The larger STS saloon, SRX off-roader and XLR roadster are also available to order now but are currently only on offer in left-hand drive. Right-hand-drive versions of the SRX are expected next year alongside the new BLS saloon. Two more Cadillac showrooms in Manchester and Birmingham are due to join the London dealership this year. At least three more are planned for the rest of the UK by the end of 2006, and 18 by the close of 2007. |
