03 December 2007 Renowned German tuner AC Schnitzer has taken the subtle BMW M3 and turned it into a motorsport inspired monster. Schnitzer has left the 420bhp BMW V8 alone, but an Aachen exhaust system spills aural and visual appeal from its four joined tailpipes forming horizontal figure of eights. The Schnitzer’s nose headbutts 60mph in 4.8 seconds before seeking out the nearest corner with its race-derived suspension tweaked to provide a more sporting drive than the standard BMW M3. A ‘Short Shift’ has been fitted to give the gearbox a shorter throw and potentially allow the driver to change between ratios more quickly. Schnitzer claim that the ACS3 will corner “as if there were magnets below the road surface.” thanks to front and rear spoilers constructed from carbon fibre, giving the car increased stability and downforce at high speed. The front spoiler is held in place by distinctive motorsport engineered metal struts. A rear spoiler is added to the rear of the carbon fibre roof, and also to the boot. The aggressive demeanour of Schnitzer’s ACS3 is rounded off by 20-inch forged wheels. They are constructed from a lightweight alloy, optimising the handling and ride comfort credentials. Inside the racing theme continues – Schnitzer has replaced many pieces of interior trim with carbon fibre and offering aluminium controls for the gear knob, handbrake, pedals and i-Drive controller. Last week we reported on the barmy AC Schnitzer BMW 1-series, view the full story here. |
