19 September 2007 Sportscar manufacturer Wiesmann has revealed its latest GT – the 507bhp MF 5. The German tuners have raided the BMW parts bin and fitted the M Division’s storming 5.0-litre V10 engine and seven-speed auto box found in the M5 and M6. This means the baby GT sprints to 62mph (100 kph) in a hair-raising 3.9 seconds. And although official figures haven’t been released, expect a top speed of 205mph. Wiesmann has also fitted BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system to ensure the engine’s massive pulling power doesn’t overwhelm the 19-inch wheels. The enormous V10 engine is mid-mounted in a bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque shell, with carbon-fibre reinforced body panels.
The Wiesmann GT MF 5 will go on sale in spring 2008 with an expected price tag of €178,900 – just under £125,000. But this isn’t the only car to benefit from the M5’s glorious free-revving V10 – German tuner Hamann has shoehorned an uprated version of And the result is astonishing – 560bhp and a top speed of 208mph. The ‘Thunder’ dispatches the obligatory 0-62mph dash in just 4.3 seconds – half a second quicker than the all-new M3. As part of the ‘Thunder’ package, Hamann also offers 20-inch lightweight forged wheels, uprated brakes, a front spoiler and rear diffuser. The entire package can be fitted to any new 3 Series coupe, from the 325i upwards to the M3. Auto Trader links Ludicrous M5-powered 208mph BMW M3 Ballistic BMW M3
