Video: BMW 1-Series Coupe Performance Kit
12 March 2008 BMW has released a new video showcasing its new ‘Performance Kit’ set of tuning and styling accessories for the BMW 1-Series. The Performance Kit, which was seen for the first time in Europe at the Geneva Motor Show, can be seen on the move and close-up in the new video. They include a Performance Aerodynamics Kit with a racing car-style front bumper, sweeping side-sills, carbon fibre door mirrors and carbon fibre rear spoiler. Attractive 18 or 19-inch wheels fill the arches and are specially designed and made to weigh less than standard alloys. Lowering suspension springs are available, finished in yellow, to give the 1-Series Coupe racier handling. Also painted yellow are the huge brakes which grip large ventilated discs for greater stopping power. Under the bonnet a carbon fibre strut reinforcement bar stretches above the engine and BMW claims it increases the car’s stiffness. Continuing the use of carbon fibre is the newly developed air-intake system, which allows more air into the engine. An upgraded exhaust system increases efficiency of gases leaving the engine, and should provide a sport sound. Inside, the Performance Kit offers up some extremely sporty seats and a new gearshift leaver finished in chrome and Alcantara which is said to shorten the shift travel by 25 per cent. A steering wheel which features a built-in readout for important engine and performance data can also be specified. The Performance Kit originally debuted on the BMW 1-Series Coupe Tii Concept, which was shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. |
