Bentley has announced the fastest four-door saloon it has ever built; the Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed.

The Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed is the company's first four-door to break the 200mph barrier, and is just 2mph slower than Bentley's fastest, the Bentley Continental GT Speed.

Powered by the same 600bhp W12 engine as the Continental GT Speed, the Flying Spur Speed can cover 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Its ride height has been reduced by 10mm and is fitted with unique 20-inch alloy wheels and bespoke Pirelli tyres. To aid handling, Bentley has revised the car's power steering system and introduced a 'Dynamic' mode for the car's ESP system, which will intervene later to 'cater for the more spirited driver'.

To differentiate the Bentley Flying Spur Speed from the standard car, it features a dark-tinted radiator grille, larger exhaust tail pipes, a three-spoke sports steering wheel, drilled alloy pedals and a knurled chrome and hide gearlever.

Bentley's announcement comes as it revealed a raft of changes for its Flying Spur range.

The standard Bentley Flying Spur has a wider air intake in the front bumper, said to allow up to 14 per cent more air into the engine. It also features a new rear bumper.

Bentley claims improved interior refinement, with improved sound proofing for the side and rear windows, as well as under the car and in the wheelarches.

The 2009 Continental Flying Spur is also the first model to feature a new Naim audio system. Designed exclusively for Bentley, it features a 1,100-watt amplifier and 15 speakers. Bentley says the speakers are tailored to each individual model in its range to 'create the world's best in-car sound stage'.

Last week we reported on the world's wildest modified Bentley Continental GT, complete with a hand-painted carbon bonnet, crazy bodykit and shimmering gold paint.
