The results of our Valentine survey are now in and the findings make worrying reading on this day of romance. The survey on Auto Trader.co.uk, in conjunction with motor insurer MORE TH>N, revealed that over a quarter of people would dump their partner if they scratched, crashed or drove their car without their permission.

And when it comes to choosing between their partners and their car, 80% of men confessed to siding with their car over their girlfriend. A staggering 48% of people would spend their bonus on their car rather than their loved one and over a fifth would never let their partner drive their car.

Research also showed that nearly two thirds of people surveyed thought their car was important in attracting the opposite sex and over 20% have referred to their car as ?the passion wagon?!

But not all is lost on the romantic front - one in eight people admit to having had their first kiss in their car and nearly a fifth of car owners have done something romantic for their partner using their car. Examples range from driving hundreds of miles to surprise their other half, proposing in the car, to setting up a candle lit dinner for two on the backseat!

Commenting on the findings, Jon Sellors, PR manager at MORE TH>N said, ?I always knew we were a nation of car lovers but this is ridiculous. Maybe it?s because your car is more reliable, doesn?t answer back and is never late that so many people are more in love with their motor than their own partner??

The winner of our all expenses paid romantic weekend for two in Milan will be announced early next week.
