Auto Trader voters snub London congestion fee
|
The majority of London Auto Trader users agreed that Ken Livingstone?s £5 daily London congestion fee would have a negative effect on London business.
This is according to an Auto Trader poll targeting users in London and the Home Counties.
Mayor Ken Livingstone?s controversial scheme to charge motorists on entering central London in an effort to reduce congestion has been given go-ahead. The fee will become law in February 2003.
However, it?s not all gloom for London?s commuters. An optimistic 20% of voters thought the Major?s decision to implement a fee is a ?great idea? which "you hope will ease congestion".
Another way Ken?s scheme looks likely to ease traffic is that it could stop drivers moving to London altogether. 16% of you said the £5 charge is deterring you from living and working in the capital (nothing to do with the house prices then!)
Yet it?s good news for Auto Trader's private and trade sellers as only 5% of voters claimed the £5 charge would make them ?question the point of having a car?, indicating no potential downturn in the car market.
To sum up, it seems that £5 is not enough to deter the thousands of motorists who daily commute, however this doesn?t mean they?re willing to break the system.
The alternative seems to be a compromise. A sensible 16% of voters claimed they?d keep the car ?outside the zone?, thus relying on public transport once inside. Good Luck!
