The Top Gear boys look set to blow the bloody doors off in Belfast, after it emerged they are poised to recreate the Italian Job there.

Jezza and the boys want to recreate the iconic scene which sees Michael Caine and his band of thieves drive their Mini Cooper cars through a sewer in Turin.

Like the original stunt, which was filmed in a sewer under construction in Coventry, Top Gear plan to use a massive £120m sewer construction project in Belfast.

A spokesman for the show told the BBC Clarkson, Hammond and May hope to film the sequence in the coming weeks.

The original Italian Job saw three Mini Cooper cars, crammed with gold and Michael Caine's team, try to escape the police through the sewers in one of the film's most famous scenes.

Top Gear's latest stunt is one of a long line of escapades, which has seen Clarkson, Hammond and Captain Slow drive to the North Pole, take three cars across the spine of Africa and sail a pick-up across the English Channel.
