The Sugababes have a new member – and she's a cracker. Yes, it’s the '67 Pontiac Firebird that’s appearing in their next video. Stuart Milne lifts the lid on the Suga’s ride of choice.

The newspapers have said a big hello to the latest addition to the Sugababes – and at Auto Trader, we'd like to do the same.

So welcome to the 42-year old, muscle-bound stunner from America.

Sorry – we were talking about the '67 Pontiac Firebird that’s featuring in the Suga's latest video, About a Girl, not the Mobo-nominated Jade Ewen who's recently stepped into the fold.

While Jade hails from Plaistow, in East London, the Firebird we’re interested in came from more exotic climes across the pond. And we wouldn’t expect the lovely Jade to 'lay down some number 11s' or pull a 10-second quarter mile.

The Pontiac Firebird is an icon of American muscle cars. The first cars rolled off Pontiac’s production lines in California and Ohio back in 1967, but it was later cars that brought the ‘Bird worldwide fame.

Remember Smokey and the Bandit? That was a Firebird in Trans Am trim. KITT in Knight Rider was one too, also with some Trans Am goodies bolted on (although the remake saw a Mustang cast as the talking car).

It was a star of the big – and small – screen, but its real appeal was cool styling and lairy performance in an affordable package, much like the Ford Mustang that hit the streets in 1964.

It survived four distinct generations, with each evolving over their lifetime, until it was dropped in 2002 in favour of the Vauxhall Monaro-derived GTO.

But while fans were sad to see the demise of the Firebird, the Pontiac brand is also about to go the way of the dodo – that too will disappear over the next few years.
