Richard Hammond on crutches after fall
03 November 2009
Richard Hammond has injured himself while out running.
The Top Gear host was pictured hobbling on crutches after he wrenched his ankle and damaged ligaments jogging near his Herefordshire home.
But the Hamster was all smiles for the photographers as he left London studios yesterday before getting into the back of a Mercedes S Class.

It’s the third time this year the 39-year-old has been involved in an accident.
In January he fell off a horse, suffering a bruised backside and in August he was involved in a four-car pileup while driving his £110,000 Morgan Aeromax. He emerged from the crash in Gloucestershire unscathed.

These minor accidents seem to have coincided with Hammond getting the job as commentator on Total Wipeout – a comical game show where contestants attempt a water-filled obstacle course, falling over, a lot.
The Top Gear star does have a knack for near-misses.
In February, Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson were forced to make an emergency landing after a bird stuck the helicopter they were travelling in while working in New Zealand.
He’s had various crashes while filming the show with the most serious being a 288mph dragster smash in 2006.
Hammond, Clarkson and James May kick of Top Gear Live this week as part of the MPH Show at Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre. Let’s home Hammond will be fully fit for the petrol and pyrotechnics extraordinaire.
We’ll be at the supercar-heavy event so don’t forget to come back on Friday for the show report.
