Jay Kay's multi-million pound car collection

We like Jay Kay - and today is the rock star's 40th birthday.

We like Jay because he scores big brownie points thanks to his phenomenal car collection. He loves his cars, from his recent love of Porsche 911s through to his admiration for Ferrari and Lamborghini.

But we spotted something earlier this year which made us think - will he be celebrating his birthday with a rather special purchase?

At the 2009 Salon Prive supercar show, we snapped Jay Kay ogling over the glorious Aston Martin One-77 hypercar, which just last week hit an astonishing 220mph while testing.

Jay spent a rather large length of time chatting with the Aston spokespeople, glaring into the One-77's 7.3-litre V12 engine bay and having a quick sneak inside, and we're convinced the man with the funny hats wants one.

And why wouldn't he? After all, this could be the very best Aston Martin ever built. As such, the company claims the One-77 represents the pinnacle of its engineering know-how, and that 220mph speed we reported on could be just the beginning: Aston reckon they can get it to go even faster.

The One-77 makes between 700 and 750bhp and will hit 62mph from rest in just 3.5 seconds. And to top it all off, it is the most beautiful Aston we've ever laid our eyes on.

The body panels are made from hand-rolled aluminium, the structural 'core' is a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque tub, and the whole project was inspired by the DTM racing series.

Just 77 models of this £1 million hypercar will be built, and it is so bespoke, upon delivery, Aston's engineers will tune the suspension to the drivers' exact requirements.

And it would make a fitting purchase for a man who loves cars. After all, Jay owns a classic Aston Martin DB6, and Richard Hammond, who also turned 40 this month, treated himself to a classic 1969 Jaguar E-Type (the year he was born) and a £175,000 Aston Martin DBS Volante, easily one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
