James Bond's Lotus fetches £111,500
02 December 2008 The Lotus Esprit Coupe which Roger Moore drove in Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me has fetched £111,500 at auction. The 1976 sports car was sold by Bonhams to a private US collector who was bidding over the telephone against a number of people in the sale room. The anonymous winner described himself as both a Lotus and James Bond aficionado and said the car would be sent to Atlanta, Georgia. Quantum of Solace slide show Released in 1977, The Spy Who Loved Me was the tenth outing for super-smooth James Bond and the third role for Roger Moore as 007. The vehicle was one of two Lotus cars driven in the film. In the movie it turned into an amphibious car, driven both on land and underwater. A Bonhams spokesman said: "We are delighted with the result and delighted that it attracted worldwide attention." In total, 68 per cent of the cars totalling more than £2.7 million went under the hammer at the auction in West London with the biggest price going to a 1931 Bentley 8-litre Sedanca de Ville with coachwork by H J Mulliner which fetched £342,500.
