Coronation Street cabbie’s convertible Rolls-Royce
31 July 2009
Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has been snapped with a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead.
Gregson, who plays serial womaniser Steve McDonald in the hit soap was photographed with the luxury car in Manchester.
It’s a big change from the actor’s show car – he spends most episodes driving round Wetherfield in a old mini-cab.
Gregson, who has been in Corrie for nearly 20 years, is one of Soapland’s biggest petrolheads having been pictured in the past driving a Lotus 7 kit car and testing a Corvette.
In an interview with the Sunday Mail in 2003 he said: "I love tinkering about with cars and buy all the car magazines.
"I've also got an old vintage Vauxhall which I'm restoring. But my Ferrari was virtually delivered still in bubble wrap. It's a show-winning classic car so I've not had to do a thing to it.
"I was also asked to race single seater sports cars but it depends on whether I can get time off. They probably think that as I'm a cabbie I'll automatically be a maniac driver."
It’s also rumoured the 34-year-old has owned a Renault Alpina GTA and Range Rover but the Rolls-Royce is his most glamorous purchase yet.
Costing £310,000 new, Simon’s 2007 model is likely to have set him back around £225,000 – and it’s quite a model.
With a 6.75-litre V12 engine, the Roller boasts 453bhp and 531lb/ft of pulling power – giving the Brit brute a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.
The actor joins a prestigious group of Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead owners which includes David Beckham and 50 Cent.
