Arsenal star injured in Aston Martin crash
28 September 2009
Arsenal footballer Nicklas Bendtner had a "very lucky escape" when he crashed his Aston Martin into a tree.
The 21-year-old Danish striker was driving along the A1 towards South Mimms when his car left the road and collided with the hard shoulder fence and a tree.
It is understood that no other vehicle was involved in the incident yesterday morning.
A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called at 10.15am to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
"A black Aston Martin vehicle had left the road. The driver was not seriously injured."
The East of England Ambulance Service said he had had a "very lucky escape", suffering a pain in his shoulder and grazes on one of his knees.
A spokesman said: "When the ambulance crews arrived at the scene they found a car which was badly damaged after it collided with the hard shoulder fence and a tree.
"A man who we believe to be 21 years old received minor injuries. Following a checkover by paramedics, he did not require to go to hospital."
Bendtner is the latest premiership star to have been involved in a car accident this year.
In August, Spurs midfielder David Bentley was banned from driving for 12 months after admitting to driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The 24-year-old England international crashed his Porsche into a lamppost after drinking four pints and two spirits at a gig.
And former Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo wrote his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano off in a Manchester tunnel in January.
Skid marks were clearly visible at the scene of the crash and one of the red Ferrari's wheels came off.
After investigating the incident and interviewing Ronaldo, police decided not to take action against the Portuguese winger, who also provided a written statement following the crash.
