08 November 2007 A top-of-the-range Mercedes S500 previously owned by Manchester United and England star Paul Scholes is for sale on Auto Trader. Paul Scholes was the first owner the 2002 model, which is kitted out with a host of luxuries. Powered by a 5-litre V8 engine, the Mercedes S500 produces a colossal 306bhp and 336lb/ft of pulling power channelled to the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox. This allows the Mercedes to accelerate from 0-62mph (100kph) in 6.5 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Inside, the German saloon is fitted with all-round electric windows, heated leather seats, climate control, sat-nav, trip computer and tinted glass. The Mercedes also features traction control, central locking, six-CD sound system, driver and passenger airbags and super-bright bi-Xenon headlights. But it won’t be the cheapest car to run. Manchester United star Paul Scholes is regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation. The 32-year-old burst onto the scene in the mid-Nineties, making his name as a world class attacking midfielder. Famed for his sublime technique, Scholes was a member of Alex Ferguson’s legendary treble winning team of 1998/1999. He was a star for England as well, representing the Three Lions 66 times before retiring from international football in 2004 to concentrate on club football. This decision led fans from a host of teams to beg him to return to the England setup after continuing to star for Manchester United in the league – helping them to the 2006/2007 Premiership title. Paul Scholes is the latest in a line of Manchester United heroes whose cars have appeared on Auto Trader. Over the past year we’ve featured cars owned David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Fabien Barthez. Now you can get your hands on Paul Scholes’ old Mercedes – which has had two owners and covered 100,000 miles – for £24,995. |
