A top of the range Mercedes convertible once owned by footballing legend Ian Wright is for sale on Auto Trader.

Wright was the first owner of this 2002 Mercedes SL500 limited edition, which is powered by a mammoth 5.5-litre V8 producing 388bhp and 391lb/ft of pulling power.

This enables the German rocket to accelerate from 0-62mph (100kph) in 5.4 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 155mph.

And Wrighty specified the seven-speed automatic Merc be fitted with an AMG bodykit, which includes bespoke front and rear bumper, side skirts, uprated suspension and 18-inch alloys.

Inside, the black motor has electric windows, sat-nav, TV, heated seats, air-con, keyless start and a full red leather interior.

Safety features on the SL include ABS, traction control and driver and passenger airbags.

Ian Wright is one of the nation’s most loved sportsman famous for his goal-scoring heroics for Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

He was the Gunners’ top goal scorer of all time until Thierry Henry broke his record in 2005.

After retiring in 2000, Wright has established himself as a pundit with the BBC going to the 2006 World Cup and recently got his own radio show on TalkSport.

And in 2005 the excitable star was a guest on Top Gear, taking the Suzuki Liana round the show’s track in 1minute 47.8 seconds – making him the fifth fastest Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
