Budget 2008: Your reactions
13 March 2008 As the news of Chancellor Alistair Darling’s Budget is analysed all over the UK, we bring you the reactions from our contributors on the Auto Trader Blog. Have your say on the Auto Trader Blog Dave “The road tax needs to be modified to account for how many miles the vehicles is driven instead of charging a fixed amount, otherwise the charge makes no sense.” Adrian “I don’t agree with these CO2 based taxes but why are they only for the first year on the high polluters? If you’re forking out £50k plus for a car then you’re not going to [care] if it’ll cost a grand to tax for the first year before falling to a couple of hundred.” BoA Wrath “There should be some levy on large vehicles. The roads are bad enough already without the mums on the school run in what seem like armoured 4×4s “There needs to be a balance in fair reinvestment and improvements in our road network and an incentive or state run scheme to get kids to school, taking these school run convoys off the roads. “During the holidays when the kids are off and there is no school run, my commute down the M6 seems 50 per cent less busy. The solution seems simple to me.” Ronnie “Should have put road tax up a lot higher – What is a [Porsche] Cayenne S doing in a town anyway?” Rich “The biggest contributor (in the UK motoring world) to CO2 production is the person who buys a new car every year. Those who keep the same car for 10-15yrs should be rewarded not penalised.” Andy “I (with a car of 185g/km) will have to find an extra £90 next year. A slightly more polluting car of 195g/km – which up until now was a bracket higher, will now pay the same as me …an increase of only £50. “I for one will be buying a more polluting car next year, ‘cos it will cost me the same as my less polluting one.” |
