SSC supercar breaks Bugatti Veyron’s record

SSC supercar breaks Bugatti Veyron’s record - News image

by Adrian Hearn

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT has ended the Bugatti Veyron’s reign as the world’s fastest production car after it hit a staggering 257mph.

To take the official title as world’s fastest car, the Aero TT had to race down a course, then turn round and make a second pass in the opposite direction for an average to be recorded.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.2-litre V8, the American monster averaged 255.83mph.

Satellites normally used to measure the speed of missiles were used to record the Aero’s speed.

It will be a tense weekend for the SSC team as they must wait until Monday to have the results confirmed by Guinness.

If confirmed, the Aero will beat the Koenigsegg CCR’s current record of 242mph as the Veyron was never officially tested.

But it’s not as quick as SSC would have hoped for.

The Washington-based car maker claimed the Ultimate Aero TT – which you can wheel spin at 190mph – could reach 273mph.

SSC will submit official details of the test to Guinness on Monday to get the results confirmed.
