Modified 400bhp Audi TT RS beats R8

Forget Oasis – this is sibling rivalry like you’ve never seen.
A tuning company has taken the 335bhp Audi TT RS and modified it to produce 400bhp and more torque than the V8-powered Audi R8 – all for a bargain £1,200.
By fine-tuning the engine management system, the Sportec-tuned Audi TT RS produces a whopping 401lb/ft of pulling power, dropping the 0-62mph time to just 4.2 seconds.
This, as the more eagle-eyed among you will notice, is a full 0.4 seconds quicker than a V8-powered Audi R8, while offering 84lb/ft more.
Swiss tuner Sportec – responsible for an 858bhp modified Porsche 911 Turbo – has adjusted the engine’s computer brain to make the standard 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine sing like it should, with in-gear acceleration times “greatly improved”.
Sportec also removes the 155mph speed limiter when performing their ‘Stage One ECU’ performance upgrade. The standard Audi TT RS is capable of 174mph, so with this extra oomph, we’re guessing the Sportec version will comfortably hit more than 180mph.
The Swiss tuner is currently testing a range of performance, styling and ‘dynamic’ upgrades for the TT RS, which means we can expect suspension tuning to follow.
And don’t forget: this is just ‘Stage One’ of the ECU programming. Could they release a 500bhp Audi TT RS?
We can only hope…
The new Audi TT RS costs £44,885, and Sportec will charge £1,200 (including VAT and fitting) for the 400bhp upgrade. The conversion is covered by a guarantee for the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty.
