The world’s first mass-produced diesel sports car is just around the corner – the Audi TT TDI.

An average fuel consumption of 44 mpg makes the Audi TT TDI one of the most efficient sports cars ever built, and its carbon dioxide emissions of just 139g/km make it one of the cleanest.

In the UK the Audi TT TDI’s emissions rating will place it in tax band C with an annual charge of £120 – making it one of the cheapest sports cars to run.

Audi’s baby sports car can accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and has an impressive top speed of just over 140mph.

Its overtaking ability should be impressive thanks to 258lb/ft of pulling power, more than the 236lb/ft found in the 3.2-litre V6 petrol range-topper.

Both a coupe and roadster convertible will be available and both will be fitted with Audi’s trademark large front grille and Quattro four-wheel-drive system.

Inside, the Audi TT TDI has a centre console angled toward the driver and a racy flat-bottomed steering wheel which all nod towards its sporting pretensions.

Safety equipment includes two front airbags, and the seats have specially shaped backs and head restraints designed to protect the occupants in a rear-end collision.

Electric windows, trip computer, front fog lights and an audio system are all standard. Optional extras include electrically adjustable front seats, headlights which turn into corners, satellite navigation system, upgraded stereo and three leather interior upgrades.

The Audi TT TDI Coupe and Roadster are available to order now from £26,350 and £28,350 respectively.
