Fastest-ever A4 on sale in autumn
24 March 2005 The 414bhp car uses a more powerful version of the 4.2-litre V8 petrol engine from the Audi S4. This powers the RS4 to 62mph in just 4.8sec and on to a limited 155mph. The saloon's impressive performance is helped by its light weight: the RS4's suspension, bonnet and front wings are made of aluminium, and the cabin gets ultra-light seats. This fastest A4 uses Audi's Quattro four-wheel-drive system but sits 30mm lower than the regular S4. It is also equipped with an electronically controlled suspension system. The manufacturer has not yet released fuel consumption or emissions figures. The RS4 generates 71bhp more than its BMW M3 rival, and 52bhp more than the Mercedes C55 AMG. However, the Audi is more expensive, costing £8800 more than the BMW and £2045 more than the Mercedes. An Avant version of the RS4 is expected to follow in 2006. |
