Audi Q-car hits the dirt
24 February 2005 When the Q7 appears early next year, it will represent the company's first real foray into the 4x4 market. The dramatic picture of the Q7 shows it has remained faithful to the imposing Pikes Peak concept car unveiled in 2003. The seven-seater car will take on the new Mercedes M-Class, which goes on sale in the UK this September, and the BMW X5. Prices are still some way from being announced by Audi, but the Q7 should start at around £31,000. The manufacturer has said the Q designation will be used for a family of new off-roaders, so expect eventually to see a smaller 4x4 from Audi, too. Tipped to be called the Q5, the company's second off-roader could be revealed in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Other big new off-roaders on the way include the Jeep Grand Cherokee going on sale this spring and the Cadillac SRX. Although the SRX is available to order in left-hand drive now, right-hand-drive versions are expected next year. The Range Rover Sport is also on sale this summer while the Nissan launches its Murano in February and Discovery-sized Pathfinder in March. |
