New flagship for A8 range
05 April 2004
Audi has launched a sportier version of its A8 luxury car, costing £72,375.
The car shares the same 444bhp, 6.0-litre 12-cylinder engine and Quattro four-wheel-drive system as the £75,775 long-wheelbase model, but has a standard-length wheelbase, sportier transmission settings and firmer suspension.
The six-speed gearbox's ratios have been modified to ensure greater mid-range acceleration, while firmer springs and a lower ride height mean more precise and composed handling, Audi claims.
Larger 19-inch alloy wheels are fitted, along with a bold new grille like that seen on the all-new A6. More supportive electrically adjustable front seats are also fitted.
Fuel consumption for the new model is just 20.1mpg on the combined cycle, while a 35% company car tax rating means the car will cost a higher-rate taxpayer £10,105 a year in tax.
