More Multitronic for Audi A6

14 February 2006

Audi's Multitronic automatic transmission is now available on the 2.0- and 2.7-litre two-wheel-drive diesel versions of the A6 saloon and estate.

Multitronic is a continuously variable transmission, which costs £1450 more than the standard manual gearbox, giving a list price of £26,725 to £30,115.

With the 138bhp 2.0-litre engine, the Multitronic gearbox brings the A6 to 62mph in 10.2 seconds, 0.1sec quicker than the manual, although the top speed drops 3mph to 127mph.

Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 3.8mpg worse at 40.3mpg, while company drivers will pay tax on an added 3% of the car's value at 27%. A yearly bill stands at £2865 for a 40% tax payer.

The 178bhp 2.7-litre diesel model makes it to 62mph in 8.3sec with the automatic, just 0.2sec behind the manual. Top speed drops 3mph to 140mph, while fuel consumption increases 2.1mph to 37.7mpg.

Bills for company motorists driving the 2.7-litre automatic rise just two groups on the tax scale, with payments now calculated on 30% of the car's value. Bills start from £3401 a year for a 40% earner.
