Audi has increased prices across the A6 range but has also improved the standard specification and introduced more tax-efficient diesel engines.

Prices have gone up by an average 2.4%, with the range now starting at £21,055 for the 128bhp 2.0-litre petrol model.

Leather upholstery is now fitted as standard to every model. It was previously a £1365 option.

Both the 161bhp and 178bhp 2.5-litre V6 diesels are also now fitted with a six-speed Multitronic or five-speed Tiptronic automatic gearboxes as standard.

Despite a £2105 increase in price to £29,710, the 2.5-litre TDi Quattro SE is now cheaper to run as a company car because it complies with Euro IV emissions standards, thus avoiding the Government's usual 3% penalty for diesels. That means a higher-rate taxpayer would now pay £3779 a year, a fall of £446.
