The new Audi A6, which goes on sale in July, promises to be cheaper, faster and more fuel efficient than the current entry-level model.

The new saloon starts from £24,340 - £600 less than the next cheapest model in the range, the 2.4-litre V6 version. The new Avant starts at £25,910.

Using a turbocharged version of the 2.0 FSI engine, the new car's sprint time is 8.4sec, half a second quicker than the 2.4 V6, while fuel consumption is 34.4mpg - a big improvement over the V6's 28.2mpg.

The 2.0 T FSI also has greatly reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared with the V6 model's. The new car is in the 26% company car tax bracket, a saving of £79 per month for a higher-rate taxpayer.

The new car is available in the SE or the sportier S line trim levels of the existing line-up. Dealers are already accepting orders ahead of the July launch date.
