These are the first shots of the stunning Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro – a diesel-powered hot hatch from the German car maker.

The Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro is powered by a 2-litre turbo diesel engine producing an amazing 224bhp and 331lb/ft of pulling power.

This accelerates the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro from 0-62mph (100kph) in 6.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 149mph – making it quicker than the 2-litre petrol A3 which despatches 62mph in 7 seconds before peaking at 146mph.

The Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro’s power is transferred to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

And to spruce the design up, the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro gets a Touring Car-look rear spoiler and extended wheel arches which house a set of 20-inch alloy wheels and ceramic front brakes.

Inside, the diesel hot hatch features bucket seats, lashings of chrome and a host of ‘TDI Power’ badges.

While Audi says the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro is a one-off show car, the German car maker is renowned for building its concepts and announced earlier last week the Audi TT Clubsport Quattro may hit production.

Other concepts which are stated for production include the A1 supermini, while the Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro evolved into the A3 convertible.

Audi is one of the forerunners for diesel cars and recently launched the first bona fide diesel sports car in the Audi TT TDI which is available to order now.

But if the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro sees production it will face stiff competition from the BMW 123d Coupe which – despite not looking as aggressive – hits 62mph in 7 seconds, has a top speed of 148mph and averages 54.3mpg - and costs £26,290.

The Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro goes on show at the forthcoming Lake Worther Tour in Austria alongside the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans.
