Audi has introduced cheaper versions of the sporty S Line A3 to the range, so buyers now have no fewer than 46 models to choose from.

S Line, previously reserved for the higher-performance 247bhp 3.2-litre V6 petrol and 197bhp 2.0-litre TDi model, can now be specified on any Quattro four-wheel-drive A3 or one fitted with the Direct Shift Gearbox automatic transmission. With a £1000 premium over Sport models, these cheaper S Line cars start at £21,950 for a three-door 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel.

Eighteen-inch alloy wheels, stiffer suspension, sports seats and leather trimmings in the cabin are all standard.

A new Open Sky glass sunroof is also available for Sportback models. The roof extends from the windscreen to the rear window to let in more daylight than a conventional sunroof. It can be opened from the front or rear to shield from glare and in a variety of ways, from a draught-free tilt to a full-length panoramic opening.
