Audi supercar footage hits the web - News image

22 January 2007

by Adrian Hearn

Footage of Audi’s first supercar in action has appeared on the Internet – and it looks like it's exceeded all expectations.

Powered by a 4.2-litre V8, the Audi R8 produces 414bhp and 317lb/ft pulling power ensuring acceleration from 0-62mph (100kph) in a torso-twisting 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 187mph.

Targeting the Porsche 911 sector, the R8 – which shares components with the £120,000 Lamborghini Gallardo – boasts a six-speed manual or semi-manual gearbox and 19-inch double spoke alloy wheels.

And at £77k, the market dominating Porsche looks set for some real competition from its autobahn-storming counterpart.

You won’t be able to get your hands on an R8 until June, so for a taster, click on the video below.
