Clean new diesel for Audi A2
17 October 2003
Audi has added a more powerful, super-frugal turbodiesel engine to its A2 line-up.
The 89bhp 1.4-litre unit has 24bhp more than the existing 1.4 TDi. It's 1.5mpg more efficient, too, returning 65.7mpg on the combined fuel cycle.
Priced from £15,090, the new model is £680 more than the 75bhp version, and remains in the lowest 15% company car tax band because it meets Euro IV emissions standards, so avoiding the usual 3% penalty on diesels.
The new model hits 60mph in 10.9sec, 1.4sec faster than the 75bhp 1.4, while top speed is extended by 10mph to 117mph.
These figures also beat the new A2's closest rival, the £15,190 Mercedes A170 CDi. It takes 12.1sec to reach 60mph, returns 57.9mpg and sits in the 18% company car tax band.
Audi has also given all models in the A2 range a new-look front grille and a wider choice of colours and alloy wheels.
