Aston Martin sold to Prodrive - Official
12 March 2007 Aston Martin has confirmed its sale to a consortium lead by Prodrive boss David Richards. Richards bought the luxury British marque from Ford for £479m with backing from Kuwaiti firms Adeem Investments KSC and Investment Dar Company. He runs the Prodrive engineering company that already runs Aston Martin’s racing cars in the FIA GT series, Le Mans 24 Hours and similar events. Speaking at Aston Martin's headquarter in Gaydon, Oxfordshire, Richards described his, "long-held passion for Aston Martin motor cars," and said it was an, "icon of British engineering and understated style." He promised, "a new era, a new chapter in the extraordinary history of Aston Martin." Prodrive also owns the rights to the twelfth place on the Formula 1 grid that becomes available next year. There is no information yet about whether this might be run under the Aston Martin name. Aston Martin enjoyed its most successful year ever in 2006, selling 7,010 cars. Forthcoming models include the DBS as seen in last year’s hit James Bond film Casino Royale. This will be followed by a new V8 convertible, and a four door model called the Rapide is expected in 2008 Ford will retain a £40m investment in the company.
