This is the Maybach Zeppelin – a limited edition flagship model of what is already one of the world’s most expensive cars.

Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Zeppelin specification will be available on both the Maybach 57 and the longer wheelbase 62 models.

While the name is generally associated with either a form of air transport or a rock group, the Zeppelin is inspired by the Zeppelin DS 7 and DS 8 which were super-posh V12 Maybachs from the 1930s.

Under the bonnet of the luxury saloon is a 6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine developing 640bhp and 737lb/ft of pulling power – a 28bhp over the standard Maybach.

Limited to a production run of 100, the Zeppelin gets new 20-inch wheels which are ‘first painted with a black undercoat before having a silver topcoat applied using an elaborate painting process that causes the tone to gradually increase in darkness from the outside in’.

Further attention is paid to the Maybach’s wing mirrors which have been streamlined to produce less wind noise while the body is painted in tones of brown and black.

The most opulent feature on the Zeppelin is the ‘Perfume Atomiser’ which – controlled through the air-conditioning system – emits fragrances exclusively developed for Maybach by specialist Givaudan.

And at £3,540 it’s not exactly cheap, but somehow we don’t think a Christmas tree hanging off the rear-view mirror will cut it for the typically discerning Maybach owner.

But that optional extra is peanuts compared to the Maybach Zeppelin’s full price with the 57 and 62 costing £364,000 and £425,000 respectively.

Add the VAT and the Zeppelin will set you back £418,000 and £490,000.

The Maybach Zeppelin will be available to order immediately after the Geneva Motor Show with deliveries expected in September.
