A traffic warden ticketed one of the world’s most exclusive supercars – a Bugatti Veyron – to a chorus of cheers in a busy shopping centre.

The female warden spotted the 253mph Bugatti Veyron had been parked illegally in Manchester city centre.

And a crowd of mobile phone-camera-wielding onlookers snapped away as she stuck the yellow £60 fixed penalty notice to the £800,000 Bugatti Veyron windscreen.

Some cheered and some phoned friends to relay the bizarre scene as the traffic warden smiled.

The 8-litre Bugatti Veyron produces 1,001bhp and was the world’s fastest production car until last year – capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds – with just 12 examples on UK streets.

Celebrity Bugatti Veyron owners include X-Factor star Simon Cowell.

Last year, Auto Trader reported on a dramatic crash which left one model severely damaged after it was in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra – the first Bugatti Veyron crash in the UK.

Bugatti owner Volkswagen makes a loss on every Veyron sold, with each supercar costing £5 million to make – and is one of the world’s most complicated cars – the design of the seven-speed gearbox alone took five years and fifty engineers to perfect.

And Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond tested out the supercar's credentials when he pitted the Bugatti Veyron against a £65 million Eurofighter jet last year – with the Eurofighter snatching a closely-run victory.
