A Canadian tuning company has brought the Aston Martin Vanquish to the masses – by building a replica based on a Ford Mustang.

Exclusive Motors, based in Canada, stripped the Ford Mustang and reproduced the gorgeous Aston Martin Vanquish – which shot to fame in 2002’s James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’ – from the ground up.

A 34-piece body hides the humble 2000-2003 Mustang underneath, while inside, the car is completely rebuilt by hand.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We wanted to start with a great donor car, a car that would help us keep our prices down. We needed a car that would lend itself to its new styling, and one which was part of the Aston Martin family.”

However, Aston Martin’s howling V12 engine is out. Expected to power the replica Vanquish will be a range of Ford Mustang engines, including a 5.4-litre V8 producing around 300bhp.

Ten different companies were contacted to help build the individual parts of the replica Aston Martin Vanquish, from sourcing the donor Ford Mustang, installing suspension components, assembly, painting and upholstery.

“The Ford Mustang enabled us to create a car which had very low and inexpensive maintenance and low insurance costs”, the spokesperson explained.

“Our car, five years from now, will still hold most of its current value.”

Prices have not been announced for the unique Aston Martin Vanquish replica, but a used 2000-2003 Ford Mustang on Auto Trader will set you back just £12,000.

However, if you’re after the genuine article, prices for a used Aston Martin Vanquish start at £60,000.
