Hummer looks set to enter the coupe-cabriolet market with this – the stunning Hummer HX concept, which will be shown at the 2008 Detroit motor show.

Featuring a pair of removable roof panels and sloping rear window, the monster Hummer is set to wow the crowds when it is unveiled at the show.

But this Hummer won’t destroy the earth – it features GM’s biofuel engine and is powered by a corn-based fuel.

Three new General Motors designers were tasked with creating a new Hummer which was “fun, nimble and innovative”, with ex-professional motorcross racer and Hummer design director Carl Zipfel overseeing the project.

David Rojas, Min Young Kang and Robert Jablonski’s first assignment at General Motors was to design the new Hummer “without sacrificing the essence of the brand.”

All three students were given a specific area of the new car to focus on, and each had to produce a scale clay model to present to GM vice chairman Bob Lutz, who chose the final Hummer HX concept.

David Rojas said: “Carl (Zipfel) definitely set the tone. We’re all proud to have the chance to see our sketches become reality.”
