The ultra-exclusive Lamborghini Reventon has won the award for the World’s Most Beautiful Automobile 2007.

Introduced earlier this year at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Lamborghini Reventon won the award in the special models category.

An international panel chaired by Italian visual arts critic Bruno Alfieri gave the nod to the million-Euro Lambo at a meeting in Milan, Italy, earlier this month.

The judges were said to have selected the Reventon for its “extreme, consistent, sharp-edged styling inspired by modern aeronautics – all features which make it a work of art.”

And in a nod to its aeronautical design base, the Italian firm set up an acceleration race between an A200-A Tornado aircraft and a Lamborghini Reventon.

The fighter pilot and an official Lambo test driver challenged each other on a 3000 metre-long runway at the Ghedi military base in Brescia, Italy.

The Reventon shot off the line to take the lead and accelerated to 204mph – before the Tornado caught up in the last few metres, flying over the Reventon and winning the race.

Just 20 Lamborghini Reventons will be made, with a price tag of one million Euros each – which works out to over £800,000 – with each model already sold.
