A Dutch car maker has announced it will make five special edition Ferraris – capable of 218mph.

Vandenbrink Design says it will make a limited run of just five special edition Ferrari GTOs based on the 599 platform as tribute to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.

While the standard production Ferrari 599 pumps out 611bhp, the Dutch tuners have developed two new power upgrades for the GTO.

The entry-level 599 GTO model takes power to 650bhp.

But the flagship 630 GTO, featuring an uprated 6.3-litre V12 engine, ups power to 750bhp – enough to propel the Ferrari from 0-62mph (100kph) in just 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 218mph – 1mph faster than the Ferrari Enzo.

Designed by founder Michiel van den Brink in 2006, the gorgeous GTO takes a standard 599 and handcrafts the new body using aluminium panels.

Vandebrink Design said: “The coachwork will be completely new; the only remaining visible parts unaltered are the A-pillars and front window – everything else visible will be of our own design.”

Inside, optional upholstery redesign will be carried out by an Italian interior craftsman.

But start saving – the price of one fully-optioned GTO will set you back just over €1.2million – or £867,000 – which is more expensive than the bonkers Bugatti Veyron.
