First peek at Mitsubishi’s Evo rally car
10 October 2007
Mitsubishi has announced that its storming new Lancer Evo X is to be the course car for the upcoming World Rally Championship in This means the thoroughbred rally monster will have to run the full course to check track conditions before the Japanese stage of the FIA WRC opens on Friday 26th October. The Japanese car maker is keen to promote its new baby, and has built the course cars to full rally specification, including a stiff roll cage into the body of the car. And to whet petrolheads’ appetites, a range of purpose-built components will ensure the four-wheel drive lunatic is not left wanting for poise and grip. Specially constructed running gear and brakes have been developed with help from Mitsubishi’s tuning arm, Ralliart. Spectators will be able to spot the new Lancer Evo X course cars from their distinctive livery, including revolving roof lights alongside a siren and loudspeaker to warn of the impending race. Inside, the course-cars will feature a five-point safety harness, bucket seats and a competition steering wheel. Mitsubishi is hoping to use the Japanese stage of the FIA World Rally Championship as a testing ground for the all-new Lancer Evo X and to ensure components can withstand the demanding rigours of rally driving. The Japanese car maker is hoping the new Evo X will gain full Group N homologation next summer – allowing it to compete professionally in the WRC.
